Some William Morrow publicist was hounding me to near-death in order that I interview one of her clients - Colleen McCullough, the author of one of publishing's very first blockbusters, "The Thorn Birds," which later became a mini-series with that queen Richard Chamberlain. What on earth would she wanna discuss with little ole me? Hah! She became fabulously wealthy, bought an island off the coast of Australia, nailed down a hunky housepainter for a husband, and was flying around the world selling more books. The one she was plugging on "The Looseleaf Report" had something to do with the Roman Empire. Did I even read it? I'll never tell, but her hubby sure was a cutie.
