The 110-mile round trip drive from The Leaf’s digs in Beverly Hills…Adjacent…to the County Orange, is not exactly her favorite. Thank God, then, for Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, which held court Saturday for a sold-out crowd of dance aficionados at the Irvine Barclay Theatre. And for those who may have been Hubbard virgins, they, too, were treated to a huge dose of movement perfection that included Untouched, by one of choreography’s latest ‘It’ girls, Aszure Barton. But watch out, Ms. B., Sharon Eyal, a Batsheva Dance Company stalwart, has it goin’ on in her first work for an American troupe, Too Beaucoup.
So, kudos, to Glenn Edgerton, Hubbard’s artistic director since 2009. The Texas-born dude has enormous dance cred, and while we miss him here in the City of Angels (he headed up the Colburn Dance Institute for what seemed like a nanosecond), he is definitely Chicago’s gain.
